Inviting Reflections on the Qur’an: Complaint of the Prophet P.B.U.H. against his Adherents (12)

An alarming verse of the Qur'an reads: ."وَقَالَ ٱلرَّسُولُ يَٰرَبِّ إِنَّ قَوْمِى ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ هَٰذَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ مَهْجُورًا"

(On the Day of Judgement) the Messenger P.B.U.H. will say: "My Lord, my people had abandoned this Qur'an." Surah 25: Verse 30

Though the Qur’an was revealed in Arabic language and in Arabic diction, Allah made it very easy to learn and understand for those who care to learn it. Allah says: وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ (And, indeed, We made al-Qur’an (this book) easy to learn. Is there any one who would learn it?) Surah 54: Verse 17. This has been again clarified that We (Allah) have revealed this Qur’an unto you (Muhammad PBUH) in your language so that you could explain the revelations in front of people. Allah says: "We made it easy in your language, in order to deliver good news to the righteous, and to warn the hostile". Surah 19: Verse 97.

In this regard we should remember that:

1- Muhammad PBUH is the authority to interpret the holy Book. Muhammad PBUH used to claim that I am the most eloquent among all the Arabs.(Al-Mu'jam al-Kabir by Al-Tabarani, Hadith # 5437). What he said took the position of a proverb in the Arabic language. If now, after millennium and a half, some one claims that the Qurbani (Sacrifices at the ‘Eid) was banned by the Qur’an in Surah Mai’dah, is not correct as he (Dr. Kashif Khan: see his Post) did not understand the article of conjunction (‘atf) and the relevant verbs employed by the Qur’an in this context; and, above all, Muhammad PBUH himself sacrificed the animals after receiving this revelation.

2- Some times a Qur’anic stance regarding some thing is not elaborated at one place instead it is scattered through-out the book. In such cases all Qur’anic verses regarding that case should be looked upon in entirety and only then the Qur’anic viewpoint can be deduced.

3- The primary function of a prophet is to demonstrate Allah’s guidance and revelations in front of the people. Muhammad PBUH always demonstrated what he preached and every moment of his prophetic life has been preserved in form of Hadith and Athaar. Therefore Holy Qur’an cannot be understood without the Hadith and without knowing the conduct of Muhammad PBUH.

I shall suggest that some good brains of Ummah, from all walks of life and different genres, should volunteer themselves to learn Qur’an and should respond to the queries of the youth in present changing scenario of the world.
